A common cause of interference is the coaxial cable from the aerial to your TV. The cables can fill with water (especially old cables), and sometime long cables (especially if not well shielded) can act as giant aerials picking up all kinds of interference. Adding an amplifier can sometimes make things worse. One way improve things is to rewire with new good quality shielded cable and/or to locate the amplifier as close to the aerial as possible so you are not amplifying the interference. This is why aerial amplifiers are often found in lofts. Putting an amplifier next to the TV with the poor signal will only amplify the poor signal.

Non Technical

This multiswitch is of a type used usually in hotels, small blocks of flats, multi occupancy shared houses etc. You can connect up to four different satellite dish inputs and a aerial input. The multiswitch distributes all the signals down one cable and then each room or flat has a satellite decoder box or a Freeview box to decode the TV signal. If you want to you can even add DAB Digital Radio and/or FM radio signals to the aerial by using a PSF310 unit, which combines these signals into one.

Technical

This self-contained multiswitch is intended for stand-alone use in smaller Integrated Reception Systems (IRS). These compact switches have enhanced filtering to overcome the problem of LNB noise bleeding through on the UHF spectrum and increasing the noise floor. In addition the switches have increase isolation between the IF inputs which reduces the risk of missing Low Band channels. This range of switches is a cost effective solution for small to medium IRS systems.

The SLx range of UHF TV antenna preamplifiers are designed for the professional aerial installer and the competent DIY installer. The SLx Masthead Amplifiers are great for areas with poor signal strength or when you would like to receive an out of area transmission.
Ideal where long cable runs are necessary (where the loss is greater than 5dB). 9dB, 15dB or 26dB gain. These SLx Masthead Amplifiers require a 12V DC power supply, this can be connected via the down lead cable, either by dedicated power supply unit (also shown here) or from a distribution amplifier with line powering (such as the SLx 4, SLx 6 and SLx 8).

Many people make the mistake of assuming that a 26dB amplifier is going to be what they need because as it is the most powerful it must be best. In fact, too much gain can be as bad as not enough. You may need to do some research, as the boost that you need depends upon your distance from the transmitter, which transmitter it is etc. You can find out a lot on the Internet and you could also always try asking your neighbours what they do, the chances are if you have TV reception problems they do too.
