| What Does It
Do?
The Celestron NexImage is an image capture tool for astronomical telescopes. CCD stands for Charge-Coupled Device. Basically it is a light sensitive integrated circuit that stores and displays the imaging data so that every pixel in the image is converted into an electrical charge. CCDs turn up a lot in newer digital cameras. The Celestron
NexImage CCD allows you to view and capture live video from your telescope on
your computer screen. The included software automatically filters out video frames
most affected by poor atmospheric conditions. This leaves only the sharpest, clearest
frames to be stacked and aligned into one high quality image. What About Compatibility? The Celestron NexImage has been
designed for maximum compatibility. The NexImage 1.25" adapter barrel makes
it compatible with just about any telescope. The 1.25 adapter is threaded
for standard eyepiece filters and can be removed and replaced with an optional
focal reducer lens. Software The Celestron NexImage software is the key to making the toll work really well. Apart from the atmospheric filtering (discussed above) the camera control software allows you to manually change the gain, contrast, exposure time, frame rate and color saturation using your PC. It takes a bit of experimentation to get the best out of it, but there is also very good easy to follow quick start instructions. Also included is a tutorial with a sample video file that aims to help you to produce quality images the first night you try it. Other Optional Extras? Books, maps, photo adaptation tubes, Barlow lenses and more. Useful Stuff For astronomical telescopes please click here. Images produced with the Celestron NexImage (Celestron NexImage gallery). |
