Celestron Powerseeker2 60 Refractor Astronomical Telescope

What Does It Have Then?

The Celestron Powerseeker2 60 is a very good refractor telescope for its low price. It has an attractive square design that makes it particularly good for viewing the moon and the other planets in the solar system. The Celestron Powerseeker2 60's square optical tube helps reflect stray light away from the user’s eye, giving much higher contrast planetary and lunar views. Especially good for beginners or older children as it is light and easy to assemble and use and it comes with quite a few useful goodies.

First you have to find the object you want to observe. With a powerful telescope like this that is not too easy, the field of view, magnified as it is, is really quite small. The small mini telescope you can see in the image mounted on top of the Powerseeker2 60 is a finder scope This finder scope has a wider field of view and a cross hair (like a rifle sight). Line the star or planet you want to look at in the finder scope, and as long as you have aligned the finder scope correctly you can easily find the star or planet in the main viewer.

The high quality glass optics and 1.25 inch eyepieces (20mm and 4mm) deliver sharp images and a wider field of view if you wish.

The Celestron Powerseeker2 60's tripod is made of aluminum for lightweight strength, the tripod mount is an Alt-Azimuth. The Powerseeker2 60 can also be used in the daytime as a land telescope. This is because, rather unusually for an astronomical telescope, it comes with a rotatable erect image diagonal. This turns the image the right way up. The Powerseeker2 60 also has its own built in compass.

Ease Of Use?

Setting up is very easy. Using the telescope for observation can be a bit tricky at first. The main problem is locating the object you wish to view and then keeping it in view. The earth's rotation seems remarkably fast while you are attempting to observe an object millions of miles away. However, with some practice, it soon gets easier.

The Celestron Powerseeker2 60 is really designed for looking at the moon and at planets, and for this it really excels. It's square tube design allows a clear image of lunar features than many telescopes twice its price.

The Celestron Powerseeker2 60 comes with a Sky for Celestron CD ROM which give a great indication of what to look for in the sky.
