What Is TETRA?

TETRA stands for TErrestrial Trunked RAdio. TETRA is a digital professional two-way radio standard. Developed as a digital replacement to the larger mobile radio communication networks. There are two types of operators in the UK at present.

UK Emergency Services
The Home Office has chosen TETRA as a communications system Emergency Services including Police, Fire and Ambulance. Within Europe and the UK these services will operate in the 380-400MHz band for public safety users.

Private Mobile Radio
Private mobile Radio (PMR) networks, this includes handheld walkie talkies used by individuals, private companies and utilities such as Gas, Electric and Water services.

As use of TETRA grows there are cases of interference to UHF television reception. This can occur because of inadequate system screening or poor filtering above or below UHF on any of the older types of UHF only amplifiers or when the unwanted TETRA signal falls within the VHF/UHF passband of broadband signal amplifiers. Most interference problems come from amplifiers that are fitted in order to boost the television signal, they then amplify the unwanted TETRA signal resulting in TV picture and sound interference.

What's A TETRA Reject Filter?
