RF - Does it Matter?

RF leads come free with things and as far as connections go are far inferior to Scart, RGB Component, S-VHS or even composite (phono) leads?

Not really true. A better coaxial lead can only improve reception. Also now that so many of us receive our digital TV through the aerial via Freeview boxes having a better quality RF lead can make all the difference.

Hama SatLight

The Hama "SatLight" lead transfers analog and digital satellite signals down a very well shielded high quality lead. There is very little loss from the connection socket to the receiver and it can also be used for the DVB card connection to a PC.

But the real attraction is the small box with three LEDs that provides immediate information on the switch commands that are output from the receiver to the LNB reception block. Two LEDs show the vertical or horizontal polarisation and the third indicates whether the high band was selected with the 22 kHz signal. Consequently, the user is always able to view the information of the selected frequency band. This is an important feature since most satellite receivers on the market are unable to provide information on the switch signals or they hide such information beneath a maze of menus. Naturally, the "SatLight" cable can also be used in smaller distributor systems for preliminary inspection purposes. The question of whether the switch signal continues to the multi-switcher after an intermediary amplifier, for example, can immediately be answered by this cable with a single glance.
