Very simply, Skype is a piece of software that allows you to make free telephone calls through your broadband connection. We're all used to mobile phone companies offering free this and free that - of course it's not free really. Well, at the moment this is.

Skype uses VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and the voice call is carried along with the data flowing through the broad band connection. Skype calls are free to other Skype users. They also have a service called Skype Out which allows you to call normal phones for 1.7 cents (that is EURO Cents) a minute (this is about 1p).

We don't get anything from Skype for advocating it, but we like it so much we use it and we also sell some products designed to work with it.
