The Celestron Amoeba Digital Microscope is an excellent tool for anyone to use  for education, discovery, work and fun. This innovative microscope design allows you to view a range of specimens or objects on a computer screen and allows you to take snapshot images or short videos. The Celestron Amoeba Microscope is truly dual purpose as it has the option of low magnification (10x) which is great for viewing coins, stamps etc and higher magnification (200x) great for biology, geology etc. There is also a middle 60x magnification for all those things between the extremes.

The Celestron Amoeba Microscope comes with a very stable stand for holding the microscope steady at various positions for viewing and/or imaging.

The microscope is ideally suited for examining objects such as coins, stamps, rocks, relics, insects, plants, gems, circuit boards, various materials, skin, and many other objects. Also, you can examine specimen slides at low and high powers. The microscope comes with
8 prepared slides and  4 blank slides Also included are some useful tools: tweezers, needle probe and eyedropper.

The Celestron Digital Microscope is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, and most MACs 10.4.6 and newer. It comes with ULead photo software for Windows OS.

The Celestron Amoeba Microscope is also compatible with Apple Mac desktop computers running OS 10.4.9 (Tiger) or higher.  Your Mac will recognize the microscope.  You will not need the included CD (which has only Windows software). Instead you will be using pre-installed imaging programs on your Mac such as Photo Booth and iChat. the microscope will not work with Macbook computers.

Next, plug the camera into a port on the computer, not the keyboard, as for desktop Macs the keyboard port does not deliver enough power to run the camera. Do this before turning on the Mac. It is important that the microscope be connected first.

Now locate the imaging software (Celestron recommend Photo Booth) on your computer and open the program.   Select the “Camera” tab in the program’s window,  then select  “Celestron  Microscope” as your camera.  The microscope should now be transmitting an image to the Photo Booth screen.

NOTE: When using your microscope on a Mac with a native imaging program like Photo Booth, the shutter button on the top of the microscope is disabled.  To take a snapshot or video, select the proper icon in the program with your mouse.
