TwinTalk BT Line Sharer

What Does It Do?

You can use the TwinTalk BT Line Sharer to provide a business extension on your home phone line, or a connection for your fax with its own telephone number. With TwinTalk your children can have their own extension in their room with their own phone number; you don't need to be your kid's receptionist. For the deaf or hard of hearing TwinTalk allows the connection of a Text phone and ordinary phone on the same line. The TwinTalk works in conjunction with the BT CallSign service.

The BT CallSign service lets you have two numbers on your telephone line and with TwinTalk you can decide which of your phones, or faxes, will ring when each number is called.

What It Does Not Do?

The TwinTalk gives you two number on one line but not two lines, so you will not be able to make or receive two phone calls at the same time - or use the Internet while also using the phone (unless you have ADSL and an ADSL Filter).

Installing?

Installing the TwinTalk is very easy. You get two units which you plug into the wall sockets. There is a switch on each unit with two positions. Switch one of these one way for that extension to have your original number and the other switch the other way, which gives that extension the new number. If you only have one telephone socket you can still use TwinTalk by using a socket double adapter.

What About Security?

The Twin Talk has something called the TwinTalk GuardCall. This simple device helps make sure that calls are answered securely and appropriately. The GuardCall feature of TwinTalk ensures that only the phone which is ringing can answer the incoming call. So, your kids will not be able to answer business calls to your business phone on their home phone, and only your fax machine will be able to answer fax calls made to the fax number.

Internet?

The TwinTalk and it's GuardCall feature work perfectly with Internet connections (even Broadband).

BT Call Sign?

For the TwinTalk to work you need to subscribe to BT's CallSign Service. You get this free for three months with the TwinTalk - after that you have to pay £1.75 a month for the service.

Anything Else?

REN is 0 so it will not affect anything else you have connected.

Saving Money?

If you were to have a new second residential line it would cost £124.99 to install and £10.50 per month to rent. With the TwinTalk you pay £34.99 and £1.75 a month for CallSign. For a business customer using TwinTalk for a fax connection, or a home office phone line the saving is over £258 in the first year alone using TwinTalk and BT Call Sign and for a residential customer a saving of £195 in the first year alone.
